MIRELA IVIČEVIĆ
GUEST COMPOSER 2027
cargocollective.com/mirelaivicevic
Mirela Ivičević’s music is characterized by extreme contrasts of material, from blocks of noise and pop-cultural references to delicate structures carrying reminiscences of maritime phenomena and musical folklores of the Balkans that have shaped her sonic beginings. Insisting on music as a playground of freedom, she creates "sonic fiction" that flickers between remembered and imagined, aiming to explore the capacity of sound to challenge existing systems and convey meta-musical ideas.
Born in Split, she studied composition and media composition in Zagreb, Graz and Vienna. Her oeuvre spans from electroacoustic, intermedia and music theatre works to orchestral music, and has been performed worldwide by Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Recherche, LUX:NM, RSO Wien, Münchener Kammerorchester, SWR and WDR Symphonieorchester, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, BBC SSO, Trio Catch and many others.
She is one of the co-founders of the Viennese Ensemble Black Page Orchestra and currently serves as artistic director of Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik. Her awards include Josip Štolcer Slavenski Prize fo the music theatre PLANET 8, the Erste Bank Composition Prize, Ernst von Siemens Composers Prize and the Belmont Prize for contemporary music. In 2019, she was a fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program. She lives and works in Vienna.
