GIANNI MAESTRUCCI, percussion

 
We are pleased to announce the 2021 ilSUONO's collaboration with the Italian percussionist Gianni Maestrucci.
Chiara joins the instrumental formation of the resident ensemble to add a unique vocal color, benefitting the participants by expanding the pool of timbral possibilities for their new works.

He graduated in 1995 in percussion instruments with the highest marks in the Conservatory of Perugia and perfected by following masterclasses and lessons by David Friedman, Mike Rosen, Mike Mainieri, Gert Mortenzen, Mike Quinn, Evelyn Glennie.
He has worked for 15 years with the orchestra of the Teatro Regio in Turin and with the chamber ensembles of the theatre, for which he has composed original music and arrangements.

During this long period he was conducted by conductors such as Semyon Bychkov, Daniel Oren, Dietfried Bernet, Gianandrea Noseda, Riz Ortolani, Peter Maag, Hubert Soudant, Emil Tabakov, Yoram David, György Győriványi Ráth, Salvatore Accardo, Gianluigi Gelmetti, David Angus, Sir Jeffrey Tate, Lu Jia...

Since 2005 he is actively involved in the production of the Orchestra Città Aperta and Officina Musicale dell'Aquila.

OCP is specialized in the production of film music ("Sleeping beauty" M. Bellocchio, "Let's go to that country" Ficarra Picone ..) and live soundtracks of silent films (restoration and recording of the music of the DVD films "The Gold Rush" and "A Woman of Paris" by C. Chaplin under the direction of Timothy Brock).

He has made concerts in the role of soloist on vibraphone, marimba and percussion set up with Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, Orchestra da Camera di Perugia and Officina Musicale dell'Aquila.

 

He also collaborates with orchestras such as the Malta Philarmonic Orchestra, l'Ensemble dello Sperimentale di Spoleto, Camerata Strumentale di Prato, the Orchestra da Camera di Perugia, Ensemble strumentali di Stresa, the Umbria Jazz Orchestra, Officina musical dell'Aquila ...having the opportunity to collaborate with directors and artists such as Wayne Marshall, Ryan Truesdell, Fabio Maestri, Giuseppe Mega, Orazio Tuccella, Francesco Ivan Ciampa, Enrico Bronzi, Jonathan Webb, Hugo Ticciati, Paolo Marzocchi, Helmuth Oehring, Marcus Stenz, Roland Klutting..


He is a founding member of the ensemble Tetraktis (www.tetraktis.org). Since 1993, the ensemble has performed concerts throughout Italy and toured Europe, Africa, North America and Asia. With Tetraktis Percussioni he is the promoter of the research and development project of the chamber repertoire for percussion and has made recordings and first absolute performances of pieces dedicated by composers such as Giovanni Sollima, Mauro Montalbetti, Gianvincenzo Cresta, Vieri Tosatti, Federico Gardella, Paolo Ugoletti, Ramberto Ciammarughi, Carlo Boccadoro, Carlo Crivelli, Fernando Sulpizi, Tonino Battista, Virginia Guastella, Bruno De Franceschi, Riccardo Panfili .

In October 2020 with the Tetraktis quartet he won the MAECI competition announcement with the video-concert “Un fruscio lungo trent'anni”.
Addressing many musical genres, he has collaborated on studio and live projects with Laura Marzadori, Jonathan Williams, Nicola Piovani, Terry Riley, Stefano "Cocco" Cantini, Alessandro Carbonare, Alessio Allegrini, Joe Chamber, Pietro Tonolo, Ramberto Ciammarughi, Giovanni Sollima, Riz Ortolani Elio Pandolfi, Nico Gori, DJ Ralf, Philip Geist, Lorenzo Cherubini "Joavanotti" and Laboratorio Permanente of Domenico Castaldo (Turin).
He has recorded for labels such as Universal, Decca, Egea, Rara, Brilliant, Tactus ...
He has made concerts, performances and shows in festivals and concert seasons such as the Ravello Festival, Venice Biennale, Umbria Jazz, Perugia JazzClub, Settembre Musica (Italy), Music Lingotto (Turin), Società del Quartetto (Milano), Amici della Musica di Firenze, Unione Musicale (Turin), Grotowsnky Institute (Poland).

He currently teaches percussion instruments at the La Spezia Conservatory of Music.
